Al-Anon/Alateen
The purpose of Al-Anon is to help families and friends of alcoholics
recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of someone
close. Similarly, Alateen is a recovery program for young people. Alateen
groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members. You can contact your nearest Al-Anon
office or the Australian General Service Office for meeting details and other
information.
Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA)
The Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia is the peak, national, non-government
organisation representing the interests of the Australian alcohol and other drug sector,
providing a national voice for people working to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs.
ADCA work collaboratively with the government, non-government, business and community sectors to
promote evidence-based, socially just, approaches aimed at preventing or reducing the health,
economic and social harm caused by alcohol and other drugs to individuals, families, communities
and the nation.
Alcoholics Anonymous Australia
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience,
strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and
help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is
a desire to stop drinking.
Anglicare Australia
Anglicare Australia is a nationwide network of locally based Anglican organisations
serving the needs of their communities. Anglicare member agencies are committed to
caring for people in need and seeking social justice for all. Anglicare agencies
work in close cooperation with other community organisations and receive funding
from Federal, State and Local Governments to provide a wide range of services.
Australian Drug Foundation
The core ADF purpose is to prevent drug problems and reduce drug-related harms;
and to help people remain safe if, when, and while they use drugs.The work of
the ADF is divided into several Key Program Areas to help them deliver information,
undertake community development, research priority issues and advocate for change.
Australian Drug Information Network (ADIN)
The Australian Drug Information Network (ADIN) provides a central point of
access to quality Internet-based alcohol and drug information provided by
prominent organisations in Australia and Internationally. ADIN delivers
alcohol and drug information to its website visitors who search ADIN's large
collection of quality-assessed websites and databases. ADIN is part of the
National Illicit Drug Strategy and is managed by the Australian Drug Foundation.
Australian Hepatitis Council
The Australian Hepatitis Council is the lead national agency for people with hepatitis C
and other chronic viral hepatitis. The Australian Hepatitis Council is the national body
of State and Territory Hepatitis C organisations. Hepatitis Councils provide information,
referrals, and support services to people affected by hepatitis C, and support agencies
to reduce hepatitis C transmission.
Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet
The mission of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet is to contribute to
improving the health of Australia's Indigenous people by making relevant,
high quality knowledge and information easily accessible.
Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users' League (AIVL)
The Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users' League (AIVL) is the national peak
organisation representing the State and Territory Drug User Organisations, and
issues of national significance for illicit drug users. AIVL is a peer-based
organisation which means that it is run by and for illicit drug users.
Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD)
The Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD) is the principal advisory body to Government
on drug policy and plays a critical role in ensuring the voice of the community is heard in
relation to drug related policies and strategies. Membership of the ANCD includes people with a
wide range of experience and expertise on various aspects of drug policy, such as treatment,
rehabilitation, education, family counselling, law enforcement, research and work at the coalface
in community organisations.
Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia (DANA)
The Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia (DANA) is a network offering leadership,
professional support and friendship to Nurses working with, or advocating for, people
with alcohol and other drug issues, and concerned others. We aim for excellence and the
ongoing improvement of quality care in Nursing. DANA provides consultancy to policy makers,
community groups, educators and service providers.
Drug ARM (Drug Awareness, Rehabilitation and Management)
Drug ARM is a non-government, non-profit organisation committed to the promotion of a healthy
lifestyle without the use of unnecessary drugs. Drug ARM provides a vital outreach of
compassion and caring through education, awareness, prevention and support programs
in the area of alcohol and other drug use based on Christian philosophies.
DrugInfo Clearinghouse
DrugInfo Clearinghouse is a service provided by the Australian Drug Foundation. As a
clearinghouse, DrugInfo collects, interprets and disseminates information on drug prevention.
It does this through an integrated service comprising:
Family Drug Support (FDS)
FDS is a caring, non-religious and non judgemental organisation. FDS is primarily made
up of volunteers who have experienced first hand the trauma and chaos of having family
members with drug dependency. The aim of FDS is to assist families throughout Australia
to deal with drug issues in a way that strengthens relationships and achieves positive
outcomes. Provides a range of services and programs.
Kids Help Line
Kids Help Line is a free, confidential and anonymous, 24-hour telephone and online
counselling service specifically for young people aged between five and 18. The service
aims to empower young people by assisting them to develop options, identify and understand
the consequences of a particular course of action, facilitate more productive relationships
with family and friends, and provide information on local support services.
Lifeline Australia
Lifeline in Australia comprises 42 Lifeline Centres with local governance, providing
services from 59 locations. Lifeline provides 24-hour telephone counselling services
with the national accessible number 13 11 14 for the cost of local call. It offers
face-to-face counselling services in many Lifeline Centres. Types of services and
counselling service themes vary from one centre to another based on the specific
needs of each regional or local area.
Mission Australia
With more than 280 services across metropolitan, rural and regional Australia, in every
State and Territory, Mission Australia aims to empower disadvantaged and isolated
individuals, families and communities by giving them the support they need to get back
on track, and lead more fulfilling lives. Mission Australia provides a large number of
services and programs to help people in the community.
Narcotics Anonymous
Narcotics Anonymous is a nonprofit, international, community-based organisation for
recovering addicts active in over sixty countries. Narcotics Anonymous (NA) members
learn from one another how to live drug-free and recover from the effects of addiction
in their lives. Membership is not limited to addicts using any particular drug. Those
who feel they may have a problem with drugs, legal or illegal, including alcohol, are
welcome in NA. Recovery in NA focuses on the problem of addiction, not on any particular drug.
National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO)
The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is the national peak Aboriginal
health body representing Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services throughout Australia. In
keeping with the philosophy of self-determination, Aboriginal communities operate over 130
Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) across Australia. An AMS is a primary health care service
initiated and operated by the local Aboriginal community to deliver holistic, comprehensive,
and culturally appropriate health care to the community which controls it. A list of NACCHO

National Drug Research Institute (NDRI)
The National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) conducts and disseminates high quality research
that contributes to the primary prevention of harmful drug use and the reduction of drug
related harm in Australia. NDRI plays a key role in national harm prevention strategies
through research designed to establish the preventive potential of legislative, economic,
regulatory and educational interventions.
Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian
Church. It provides a large number of services and programs to help people in the community.
The Salvation Army provides services and programs to address addiction. These programs include
needle exchanges, withdrawal programs, counselling and referral, home- based programs,
residential treatment services, support groups, and programs specifically designed to meet
the needs of special populations.

Directions ACT
The mission of Directions ACT is to provide the community with a best practise
service which addresses drug misuse, minimises drug related harm and promotes
respect and dignity for everyone. Directions ACT programs are delivered in
accordance with harm minimisation principles. Directions ACT offer a range of
health interventions designed to reduce or limit harms and improve personal and
public health. It strives to reduce harms associated with alcohol and/or other

Families and Friends for Drug Law Reform (ACT)
Works for drug law reform, is committed to preventing tragedy that arises from

Karralika Drug and Alcohol Therapeutic Community
Rehabilitation, halfway house access, counselling, living skills, parenting

Relapse Prevention Group
Non-residential support and education program assissting people in maintaining
a drug-free lifestyle. Supports people who have undertaken an alcohol and/or
drug treatment program to maintain recovery.
Ted Noff's PALM Program
PALM (Program for Adolescent Life Management) is an intensive residential program
for up to three months for young people aged 14 to 18 years who are drug dependant
and experiencing substance-use related difficulties. The goal of the program is to
increase the ability of young people to manage their own lives effectively.
Women's Information Resources and Education on Drugs and Dependency (WIREDD)
Provides information, resources and education for individual women on drug and alcohol issues,

Drug Education Network - Hobart
DEN is a statewide organisation operating within harm-reduction principles.
It provides health promotion programs, brief interventions, and research on
alcohol and other drugs in Tasmania. DEN's services are available to parents,

in the topic of alcohol and drugs all members of the community.
Holyoake Tasmania Inc
Holyoake offers supportive programs for people affected by a significant other's use of
alcohol or drugs. They also have a program for young people 18 and over who are
concerned about their own use of alcohol or drugs.
Tasmanian Council on AIDS, Hepatitis & Related Diseases Inc (TasCAHRD)
The Tasmanian Council on AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases (TasCAHRD) is a community
based organisation which aims to reduce the risk and incidence of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and
Related Diseases transmission and to support those affected by HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis and

The Link Youth Health Service
The Link Youth Health Service is a free, confidential service offered to the
youth of Tasmania. Services at The Link are available to all people aged between
12 and 25, with specific emphasis placed on assisting and advocating for vulnerable
young people. The Link assists young people to gain access to all areas of health
services including mental and emotional health, alcohol and drug services, sexual
health, dental health and general medical services. "On site", The Link provides
counselling relating to substance use, items to assist with hygiene including the
provision of a shower and clothes washing/drying facilities, printed information

Offers methadone and buprenorphine maintenance programs as well as outpatient
counselling for opioid-dependent clients, assisting them to reduce or abstain

Antenatal Chemical Dependency Clinic
Obstetric and neonatal services for women and families. Antenatal care, in liaison with

Kirketon Road Centre (KRC)
KRC operates a comprehensive medical, counselling and social welfare service including
methadone access and needle syringe programs from K1 above the Darlinghurst Fire
Station. KRC also has a satellite facility known as K2, which is located at the
epicentre of the street-based sex work and drug scene in Kings Cross. K2
provides a needle syringe service, health and social welfare advice, and

Tranquilliser Recovery and New Existence (TRANX)
TRANX provides a benzodiazepine withdrawal support service through counselling, telephone
support and resources to help people recover from dependency on tranquillisers or sleeping pills.

Turning Point is a specialist alcohol and drug organisation. Our approach to alcohol and drug

Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men's Health Centre (VAC/GMHC)
The primary focus of VAC/GMHC is the health and well-being of HIV positive individuals and
communities, the HIV vulnerable or at risk communities, and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and
Transgender (GLBT) communities. Services include: Support services for people living with
HIV/AIDS, and services which aim to improve health and well-being, including medical services,

VAADA was established in 1980 as a peak body representing alcohol and drug treatment agencies across
Victoria. VAADA currently provides services to both service providers and the Department, including

VIVAIDS Victorian Drug User Group
VIVAIDS is a statewide membership based organisation of drug users. Membership is made up
of current users, ex-users and people who agree with the groups aims and objectives. VIVAIDS
provides peer education, information, referral services to drug users, facilitates working
groups on specific issues and projects, publishes WHACK Magazine and runs a needle and syringe program.

Western Health Drug and Alcohol Service (DAS West)
DAS West provides a diverse range of services and programs for individuals and their families
affected by drug and alcohol related problems. Accordingly, four broad areas have been established:
Young People, Adults, Women & Children, and persons with a diagnosed mental illness who are also
substance dependent. Specially tailored programs designed to meet the diverse range of needs of
individuals within each group. DAS West Services encompass early intervention and prevention,
counselling and support, specialist home and residential withdrawal units and pharmacotherapy
programs. DAS West offers services from two locations in Footscray and one in Sunshine, as well
as its outreach services.

The Youth Substance Abuse Service (YSAS) provides a range of services for young people aged 12-21
